How many jobs do you normally apply to before you get a new position?

How many jobs do you normally apply to before you get a new position? How long does it normally take? Thank you :-)

That depends on a lot of things; your location, career, experience, etc.

It can take weeks, months or sometimes a year or more to find a decent job. It depends on how marketable you are, your experience level, education etc.

I applied to many many jobs before getting the one I currently have. I lost count, but thats how it goes, especially if you live in a large city, or large town, where there are more people than there are jobs.

Just keep applying, and try to apply directly with the companies instead of relying heavily on career sites like monster or careerbuilder. There is nothing wrong with these websites, but they get a lot of applicants applying for the same job daily. Some employers I have spoke with told me they can get as many as 100+ applications for one job posting!!

Thats plenty of resumes to look at, and guess how many get tossed?? At least of 1/2 of them.

Ask your friends, family and neighbors about possible job openings where they work too. Networking can land you opportunities as well.

Good Luck!
Reply:I live in a small town so when I look for a new job it takes forever. If you're worried about how long it's taking you to find a job, I wouldn't worry about it being your fault, I think it's normal. Especially the way things are right now.
Reply:not to gloat but i've only ever interviewed one business before i had the chance to interview elsewhere, i got the job. so one i guess.
Reply:I am going on 8 months now and have traveled across the United States for interviews and spent a lot of money. It takes a whole hell of a long time because of the economy.
Reply:Jobs stink.

Start some sort of business as soon as you can.
