Is there any jobs for disabled people without worried being discriminated or fired ?

I am just wondering, because i have tried getting a job around my small town and i can't even get past an interview! They would say that they will call ya, but how can you believe that? Oh i have tried BVR too. (Bureau of Vocational Rehabitation) and i had to go thru many meetings just to get a job and that didn't work for me either because first you would go to meetings for 3 or 4 months and get some sort of a job coach, pick about 3 different jobs to try out, and try em for 2 weeks, and if you like em, you can try to apply. None of them worked out. I ended up at some workshop and working for .35 cents an hour! Is there anything?

You did not specify your age or location. I am wondering where you live that allows you to earn .35 cents an hour! Also, let me know what your disability is, perhaps I can help.

Reply:First of all, it is totally illegal under the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) to be discriminated against simply because you're disabled.





This means, an employer cannot just refuse to hire you or fire you simply because of your disability. Employers are legally required to make "reasonable accomodation," but that request has to come from the employee.





If you're blind and need extra time to get around the office, that's perfectly "reasonable." But if an employer had to spend $100,000 to upgrade something just for you, that might not be considered "reasonable."





If a disabled person is equally qualified as another non-disabled applicant, then that person has to be given the same level consideration.





If you feel you are actually being discriminated against, which wouldn't suprise me in a small town, then I would suggest contacting the EEOC. They take sexual harassment and discrimination compliants very seriously!





And if you're collecting disability, I would contact the source of it and say you feel you may be the victim of discrimination.





It's unfortunate that people have prejudices against the disabled and use it as a way to keep them out. Illegal to do so, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Might take longer, but you'll gain employment.





I've had plenty of disabled students who have run into situations like this. Not all employers discriminate!

I am so sorry to hear this. It really angers me that people do degrade other people because of a disibility which I highly believe is wrong and its something Im against. I can not express how I feel and Im so sorry that thats happened. As for jobs, im not sure. You said you were in a small town so I guess it does limit the oppertunities a little but the best I can say is dont give up! I really dont think people with disibilities should be treated any less and I really hope everything goes well!
