What kind of jobs are offered to help find missing children?

I've recently been thinking about changing my major in college to criminal justice. I really want to help people, and I was strongly considering working in the field of missing children. Does anyone know the type of jobs that help find children who are missing?

What kind of jobs are offered to help find missing children?
There are a few options for that. Become a police officer in a larger city that would have a division for missing persons, become a private investigator and specialize in it, or check out the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's website to see if they are hiring.

I received my Bachelor's degree in CJ for the same reason. I've found in a small area though as far as police departments go, that degree really doesn't do anything for you. It all depends what you plan to do with it. Some larger PD's will pay you a bit more for having it.

Good luck to you!
Reply:You could become an Investigator.

But also keep in mind that 95% of missing children are missing by choice. They don't want to be found.

The left over percentage are most likely dead due to criminal intervention etc.

Solving the unsolved crimes wont bring them back.

The kids that choose to go missing actually do have a choice.

Many would never want to go back due to abuse in their home life. How do you solve that? Take away the abuse you take away the homelife in many cases. So they still have no home. Its a vicious circle that really has no cure.

Abuse is a massive problem worldwide.
Reply:Well.

I believe there is the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Good luck in your career.
Reply:There are various non-profits in that space. I notice my local walmart (and probably all of them) has a bulletin board by the door listing missing children. You can go there and see what that non-profit is, and you could google it and others to find out if they hire folks like you.

I suppose you could start your own non-profit or for-profit company. Most missing kids are missing due to custodial disputes as I understand it, and it seems to me there is room for some new and innovative services in that space.
Reply:Check the library, check the internet and check with a career counselor at your college.

I don't know of any direct job involved in finding missing children except for police and other law-enforcement agencies. A career in child protective services would come close. Many who majored in crim justice have gone into CPS. Advancement in that career usually involves getting an MSW.

Good luck.
Reply:The FBI is often called in on missing children's cases, so you might look for a career with them.

Conversely, you could train rescue dogs - both tracking dogs or cadaver dogs, and do rescue work on a part time or volunteer basis.
