What's the best way to find odd jobs when driving around the country?

I am considering taking time to drive around the country and was wondering if anyone knows any good and safe ways of finding odd jobs when on the road.

What's the best way to find odd jobs when driving around the country?
I know in the Atlanta area a "handy man" is a valuable resource, especially in upscale communities. You don't have to be a contractor or know how to build, just the basics, i.e., how to repair running toilets, repairing leaks, running "french drains" from existing gutters, installing lighting fixtures, fans, switches, just simple everyday items most dads can do without hiring an expert.

I am definitely not a plumber, electrician, but every time I go to Lowe's or Home Depot I seem to find people, men and women, that just are not comfortable doing things. If I am not busy I will help and I have made a new friend, but in your case you want to get paid. Never accept a job you know you may have difficulties, let the experts do those. Agree to a reasonable price for your labor and show them receipts for parts needed and let them pay you this amount only. You make your money on the labor side and it shows honesty by letting them pay for the receipt total only.
Reply:Go up to people's homes who look like they need their yard mowed/raked, paths cleared, garden weeded, etc. You won't be able to pull restaurant duty because of health and background issues. You should look for people who seem to need help around their house, then simply explain what you're doing, and I'm sure most people would find it fascinating and give you some work. Good luck.
Reply:Mr. Brother Man, you ain't living in the 1930s. Try getting jobs in restaurants as a dish washer. I did that in the 1970s. Or you could try bringing tools with you and putting a magnetic sign on your truck door with your mobile phone number on it. Good luck!
Reply:try your local day labor hall. they pay cash at the end of the day.
