What kind of jobs can you get with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science?

I'm looking to get a bachelors degree in preparation to go to Law school. I want to choose a ba that I can still get a pretty good job if I decide not to pursue law school. What kind of jobs are available to someone with a BA in Political Science?

What kind of jobs can you get with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science?
I recommend you meet with a career counselor to discuss your options...there are many. I know a few women who work for the government, another chose the FBI. There are many choices. If you want to make lots of money or help a particular group of disadvantaged people, become a lawyer. Best wishes.
Reply:Ok, if you wanna go to Law School, why don't you better major in International Relations you can work in private and public sector so after that you'll see if you still wanna go to Law School, but Political Science is a good major but that's kind of difficult to get a good job while you're still thinking about going to Law School or not, better major in International Relations you have better opportunities.
Reply:poll taker
Reply:supervisor at McD
Reply:My best friend got a degree in Political Science. He worked for a congressman for a couple of years, then for an agency in his home state. Then he got smart, and went to law school.
Reply:You can work in public finance, for political campaigns, for civil service or local governments, and insurance companies. If you want to teach or go further in political science (and don't go to law school), get a masters in public administration.
Reply:There are many avenues available to you with a BA in Poli Sci. For example, you can find work in entry-level positions in suburban governments, governmental agencies, local chambers of commerce and election campaigns. Internships during your college expereince can also help you enhance your resume.
Reply:All BA's have pretty much the same job opportunities. I go to law school and believe Poli Sci is the worse major anyone can get. About a 1/3 or 1/4 of all applicants are Poli Sci major, thus get rejected more often into Law Schools.

Is dialogue in the workplace more civil and respectful in jobs where people are better educated?

Or does gossip, mocking, and put-downs occur in most jobs where people have to work together? I'm wondering if the same type of workplace drama occurs in all jobs, dependent on the level of education of the employees, generally speaking. Examples and personal experience welcome.

Is dialogue in the workplace more civil and respectful in jobs where people are better educated?
well I used to work on a loading dock and worked withthe roughest people you will ever meet. They cussed and drank, and took smoke breaks every 5 minutes, and were real rowdy types and no education. However, they needed each other and worked well together as a team to get the back breaking work done. Sure there were some mocks and comments but it was done more in jest. Now, I am involved in management of a healthcare agency and I have to say that the doctors, and highly educated hospital employees are worst. They cuss everybody out, gossip and try to climb the corporate ladder, they make up stuff to get someone they dont like in trouble, always some drama, backbitting, and everyone trying to be independent. So from my experiance, education only changes the words used, and leaves everybody trying to be superior to everyone else, so respect for others does not exist.
Reply:I used to work in a meat shipping warehouse and now have a comfy office job for a large engineering firm.

In both places there are people who do as little as possible by complaining about the work to be done. The office has cleaner vocabulary and slightly more drama than the warehouse but then there are more chicks here too. Some people are still pricks and you have to adjust the way you deal with them, from running over them with forklift to playing jr. high put-down games to avoid getting fired.
Reply:Well you would think that such things will be less in places where people are better educated.

But the fact is the nature of people is the same no matter where they work! same things go on everywhere.. gossiping .. workplace politics..

Only difference might be the language used and knowing where to stop!
Reply:I guess so because dialogged in the workplace more civil and respectful because topics are more in the business sector, political issues or sports blogs. Where in the other places such as marketplace, I can hear vulgar words in gossips or showbiz happenings and they often talked current happenings in the nation.. there we can find dilemma in terms of educational attainment or jobs

How can me and my friend get jobs like the movie Lovewrecked?

me and my freind want to get jobs next summer some where other than our home town. In the movie love wrecked there was two people from massachusetts (like us) and they went to the Bahamas for the summer to work there in a hotel. How can we do that too?

How can me and my friend get jobs like the movie Lovewrecked?
You have to go to http://www.cruisejobfinder.com/fm/resort...

I worked on a cruiseline for a summer as a cruise staff member. There were girls who just modeled jewelery, others who chatted with the passengers, more that made up games or partied with the guests. My job was to entertain the teens, so I made up things like toga parties, disco parties, scavenger hunts, movie nights, pajama parties, star gazing parties, water gun fights, flying kites off the ship parties. It was great.

What previous jobs to include on a job application?

I've worked at a lot of places (I moved, they were temporary..etc). I'm filling out an application for an office job. Do I only include the previous office jobs I've had or do I include just the ones that I have room for going back in order? so all the retail jobs and resteraunt jobs would be included too?

What previous jobs to include on a job application?
as an employer I like to have a chronological work history, so that I can look at the work history, it is not a matter of how many jobs they have had in a time period, it is to see large gaps in their employment.

but a resume should be about who you are, what you want to do with your life, and all relevant job history, pertaining to the job you are looking to get. you should or could list your aspirations.

and a resume should be attached to the application.
Reply:all good jobs with nice pay, that you didn't get fired from, and your superiors would love to brag about you to future employers. but since that's hard to find, ones that you didn't get fired from for a reason that's your fault. and definetly ones that aren't just office background, to show flexibility.
Reply:write them all down use another sheet of paper if not enough room, and give reasons for leaving employment

What are good jobs that make decent money that include working with people?

I'm looking into colleges and getting ready to start choosing the classes that I will need and everthing. I want a job that will make decent money and I will be able to work and help people.. I've thought about becoming a doctor but I hate blood.. Lawyer seems good possibly a corprate one? What other jobs work with people alot? What kind of schooling would it require?

What are good jobs that make decent money that include working with people?
I am a Freshman Nursing student in college. With the nursing shortage, I feel that if one wants to make decent money and help people at the same time, this is the field for that person. That's why I decided to become a nurse. Think of the last time you were at a hospital or doctors office. How often did you see your doctor during your visit? Now how often did you see your nurse? Nurses get more hands-on contact with patients than doctors, and it is the nurses that patients remember most.

I have a job on campus, and my boss's mother in law was a patient in the hospital where the Harvard Medical students do their learning, and he said that the ICU was so short-handed that they offered his wife, a RN, a job there starting at significantly over $100,000 a year (I dont remember the exact number), plus costs of getting her ICU certified. How many jobs out there can offer you that? Probably not very many. Also, I don't think that just because you "hate blood" that you should shy away from the entire medical feild. Just like with anything else, once you do something or deal with something for long periods of time, you get used to it.

When I was in high school, I knew I wanted to become a nurse. So I took all honors courses (including english and history, not just honors science classes), Advanced Placement Biology, Advanced Placement Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, and Psychology. I would have also taken a Sociology class, but it would not fit into my schedule.

With all the classes I took and the grades I recieved, I was accepted under early admissions to one of the best Nursing programs in the state. If you want to do even more than that, some nursing homes offer jobs to teenagers wanting to become nurses. You could also volunteer at your local hospital as a Candy Striper, under some other volunteer organization, or on your own. All of this looks absolutely fantastic on transcripts.

And also, when looking for schools, reguardless of what major you decide, make sure to pick the school that fits you. Try to find a college that specializes in your major. I had musician friends in high school who got accepted to one of the best music programs in the state, biology friends who got into one of the best medical research programs in the state, and electrical engineer friends who got into the electrical engineer programs in the state, just to name a few. When picking your major, don't just settle for any university. Try to find the one that best caters to your major, because only hen will you recieve the best education for all the thousands of dollars you are going to spend.
Reply:Clinical psychologist, but make sure you get a Ph.D. They make excellent money with nice job security. Lawyers don't really work "with" people as much as they need to work "against" people.

What sorts of entry-level jobs can I find in Social Services?

I am a college graduate with a degree in English. However, I have been working as a counselor in a Youth Shelter for the past year and I have become interested in the field of social services. I have recently been looking for higher-paying jobs in this field, but I find that many of these jobs ask for a college background in Social Work. What types of entry-level jobs that pay at least $25,000 a year might I be qualified for with my experience and education background?

What sorts of entry-level jobs can I find in Social Services?
You will find that any job that requires specialized training or pays better will often seek Social work degrees first. However, if you are in an area with a small pool of BSW's this will work to your advantage. You will find group home, and recreation programs the easiest to get in. Some dept of social services may be an option. Also working with the elderly may be an option. DA

Try contacting the website where you make your layouts to see if you can get a job or contribute to there layouts.

I don't believe that there any many jobs out there just for layouts. I do however believe that you will become a great web developer someday. Charge your friends....That would be a start in owning your own business.

Good Luck to you

How to find jobs for foreign students in Singapore?

I am a foreigner currently studying at a local JC in Singapore. I find it hard to find part-time jobs during the holidays because most of them ask for Singaporeans or someone with Permanent Resident status. So where do i exactly find jobs that wants foreigners and pays well? I have tried jobstreet and other employment websites. But nothing works! =(

How to find jobs for foreign students in Singapore?
dude....when i was in JC 5 yrs ago and use to work at sim lim sq at one of the shops helping troubleshoot pcs...and mind you im an australian and still am. it aint that tough to find jobs especially part time ones..if u know people, that'll be even better. gd luck mate!
Reply:how abt working at a fast food restaurants?or maybe you can try go to 88db website and look for any job opportunities, you can even find a home based jobs
Reply:I believe you are on student pass, you should ask your school for any jobs available for attachments relevant to your course of study.
Reply:Most of jobs are hard to work so you may be disappointed. I use this great job http://www.googleadvertise.com they help you to be successful.
Reply:According to the ICA and MOM laws, foreign students studying in local JCs are not allowed to work in Singapore in any form (part-time or full-time) unless you are waiting for FINAL examination results and you possess a work-pass.

I believe if you tried harder, you might still be able to get a job somehow, probably because the employer does not know the law well, but my advise is, don't risk your future, if you get caught, you'll be exiled.
Reply:get working visas. i got mine (but not singapore.. im from singapore.. in australia).. working visas.. more safe..

without working visas like if u're on student visas i think its illegal?

or u can go restaurant as waitress.. =D

My friend who is a foreigner got his students through tuition agencies. Hope this helps!

What are non civil service law enforcement jobs? What would they be listed and where?

Does Ca have such jobs and are they in each county in the state? I've never heard of such a thing before. Also how would a person get paid?

What are non civil service law enforcement jobs? What would they be listed and where?
Do you mean CA State Jobs. Well all police departments have Non-Sworn positions. These would be Secretary jobs, record techs, dispatchers, vehicle maintenance to name a few. Look on your state run web sights or State Patrol/Trooper web sight there should be a link to human resources. Then find what your looking for, good luck.

Bushido
Reply:You can easily find out by calling the state DOP or looking on their site.

Here in NJ, we have both civil service (hired through the state) and non civil service (hired from the department directly).

I am sure they do because I think you can put yourself through the academy for a feww on your own. Like I said, department of personnel for the state would answer this question fairly easily. Just call tomorrow.

How can I tell what jobs are in demand in my area?

Does anybody know of a site that can tell you what jobs are in demand in your area and how much they pay? My husband is considering a job change and wants to go back to college but was wanting to research some careers. We live in a small town and don't have a lot of options?? He has taken some networking classes but he is unsure of how available that job is here?

How can I tell what jobs are in demand in my area?
just look at local want ads - the ones with the most listings will be the ones in demand - same if you check a particular city/area on monster.com or similar website
Reply:There usually is a state employment service office in every county--probably in the town or city where the county government is located. They have information on all jobs open in that area, and probably it would be helpful to talk to the people who manage the office.

Your local Chamber of Commerce also may have some information about the kind of jobs that are available in your area, pay scales, education requirements, etc.
Reply:see if there is a career counselling office at the educational institution he is attending.
Reply:The Want Ads will tell you the situation now.

School takes a couple of months, and the situation may change.

What are good jobs for physicists in the United States Navy or Air Force?

I heard some get jobs at the NUWC in RI, but I want an officer rank not a civillian Job.

What are good jobs for physicists in the United States Navy or Air Force?
Assuming you have (or are going to have) a 4-year degree, you have many options.

Navy: Nuclear power is the method of propulsion for almost all aircraft carriers and all submarines. Entering their program will give you excellent opportunities in working with nuclear power.

Air Force: There is a career designation called, "scientist". In this career, you do just what you studied. You do research in new weapons, propulsion, etc. platforms. I know several engineers who have gone into that, and love it.

I was a physicist (before I became the Economizing economist) going into the Air Force, and what I wanted to do was be a missileer. While it is an operational job, it got me working with nuclear weapons, and it's never a bad thing to have an advanced understanding of the weapon system you are using.

The great thing about being a physicist is that you can do just about anything in the physical sciences, so any military job would be great.
Reply:Well, it depends on what your specialty is. You can check with your local recruiters, and the service websites have a lot of info as well.
Reply:look at marine engineering... thats a popular one... also look into aviation technology... there are many options especially seeing as how in the ROTCs they stress the physical sciences a LOT... good luck with finding what you want to do... there are many options for you.
Reply:Did you already go to school? If you have not yet look into the Nuclear Officer program through the Navy. It will give you $120,000 to go to school if you join the nuke program after you graduate. If you already went to school I would still look at being a Navy Nuclear Officer, you get all the expeirence you need for employment after you leave, and losts of bonuses.
Reply:to get an officer rank, you will need to enlist in active duty status and have a college degree.

if not, then you will never be an officer. you will be a Non -Commissioned Officer without the degree going in, but you can earn degress through the military.

How do you ensure your homeschooled children can compete for jobs?

Most jobs nowadays require at least a high school diploma or GED in order to obtain employment. Since not every student is college material or will necessarily complete college, how will you ensure that your children are able to compete for jobs which require a high school diploma, especially if they will not complete college?

How do you ensure your homeschooled children can compete for jobs?
The GED with notation on resumes and application letters that the student was homeschooled. Every major University is actively recruiting homeschooled kids. If they do well on the SATs nobody cares where they learned it, especially in math.

Also, keep a journal (you as teacher keep it) keeping notes on subjects, activities, (ice skating, volunteering, and contests etc) that the kids participate in. This will be SO helpful as they fill out applications and send out resumes.

Some applications or interviews include the question, "What are your weaknesses?" Be prepared for this question with some innocuous answers. Bad spellers, people who spend too much time playing sports in the sun, news junkies, perfectionist, etc sound like weaknesses but can't be categorized as bad things, really. Say nothing that might lead somebody to thing you have anger issues, time management problems, laziness, sloppiness, etc. It sounds like a no brainer, but questions can stump people who aren't prepared.
Reply:this is why homeschooling is bad. for so many reasons. as your homeschooled, your state must send a representative to see that your children are passing classes that would be equivalent to what they would learn in a real world class istuaiton

what you are denying them is social interaction, something that many employers do weigh on when they are looking to hire.

a person could smart as heck, but be socially inept to work with others or in a group or work on a group / team project.

i can understand homeschooling until children are 12 years old, but they need social interaction from the teen years until graduation.
Reply:dude you must give a very good program for them in home school. make them learn even if the setting aint the school. as their mom you should be a teacher. educate them as best as you could. teach them manners, the right attitude in life and every stuff possible. be sure that they are indeed learned and make them read always.
Reply:I would worry about their abilities to be social... I agree that they can get a good education at home but many people hire those who are socially apt
Reply:You could start your own family owned business and then hire your own kid. That's the only way I can think of to ENSURE that they get a job.
Reply:I am a home schooled child and i have no problem competing in 'The Real World' for jobs that ordinarily would need a diploma, although i have not even passed the 11th grade. I have held full time jobs in many fields, including construction, commercial fishing, daycare and preschool, horticulture (mixing and bagging potting soil, maintaining a large variety of perennial and annual plants, putting together floral arrangements center pieces and such ), and food processing.

I realize that a lot of people have a hard time with the idea of a home school students but if your child obtains a summer job as many teens do and are able to continue school while being employed they can not only receive OJT on the job training credit, but it can also be noted on a resume. If your kid is attending an accredited program the diploma given to them will serve them just as well as one issued by a public school.

Even if your child doesn't go to college the job experience that they gain while others are off prolonging that leap into 'The Real World' will serve them well and the more people who they interact with on a business level the more job security they have.

Are there real jobs that I can do from home using my internet connection?

I have heard about companies using VOIP to let people work from home. Where are these jobs? Do they even exist? How do I get a job?

Are there real jobs that I can do from home using my internet connection?
Yes, there are some out there, and I'm sure they're very good. But be wary; just because it's on Hot Jobs or Monster DOESN'T mean it's a legitimate job. A lot of these are scams, and will end up requiring you to send money to get the job, sort of a "buy-in". Even worse, some of these may end up stealing your identity.

Just be wary of all of them, to be safe. Look up each company online and find out if there's any complaints against them. And remember, choose wisely.

What do you think about outsourcing American jobs overseas?

What goes around, comes around? When third world countries develop middle classes, they will be importing more American products -so does everyone win with outsourcing? . Or should we fight to keep as many jobs in the US as possible? And, why?

What do you think about outsourcing American jobs overseas?
Best Buy which is only in US has its call center in Canada

every time you call their number regarding your

cashback coupons you get someone in Bridgewater Nova Scotia
Reply:While I hate the whole idea of moving jobs out of America to third world countries, I do understand the reasoning. For example many companies are moving their call centers overseas. Let's face it these jobs are becoming harder and harder to fill here in the States. People are simply tired of sitting in a cubical getting paid poorly to more often than not be treated poorly.

In addition, perhaps these countries will see an improvement in their own situations by these companies offering jobs. However, the companies should have the best intrest of employees at all times and not just the employees in the States. The goal should not simply be to save money, but also to improve the lifestyle of the people in these poor countries.
Reply:When I graduated from college about 20 years ago, everyone was terrified that all our jobs would go to Japan and our country would have nothing. Some jobs went to Japan, but less than people thought. Japan started buying more of our stuff. Eventually, it all evened out pretty well. The US actually does better than Japan most years.

The same thing happened with Mexico, which people seem less worried about now. China and Indonesia are worries right now.

Here is a good way to look at it. You want to buy something, and two companies offer it. One company makes some decisions, and offers you the product 10% cheaper. Which company are you going to buy from? Answer: The cheaper one, if the quality is as good or better.

So, if a company can do something cheaper, they should do it. It helps them, it saves you money. They are stupid not too.

If you've ever tried to move jobs overseas, it is a lot harder than you think. Training, language, hidden costs (different labor laws, problems with government issues, etc), timezones, all make it more difficult than you would expect. So, not all jobs will move over. But enough will to save significant money for you and me. And, it is a good thing, in the long run.
Reply:I think it's rediculous! Why should American companies have the support of the American public when they do what they can to hire people in poor nations at a very minimun wage if that's even the case anymore, then mark up their product 400% to the American public. At least at Walmart the products may be purchased or made outside of the country but I'm not lining the pockets of the fat-cat billionaire who won't save the jobs here in America and the prices are reasonable.
Reply:Thanks for a very good question.

Look at the big picture.. it is not feasible for everyone in the US to become a brain surgeon, high finance officer, airline pilot, or politician.

The majority of the populace needs lower paying jobs in the $5 to $50 an hour range.

If all these lower paying jobs are sent overseas a person can either be a lowly garbage collector or overpaid highly educated brainiac.

The truth is it is unsustainable and a severe market correction will prove it.

Does this help anyone understand the current American anxieties?

How does a Mechanical Engineer obtain a security clearance to help obtain other jobs?

Jobs such as companies that have missle/rocket/contracts through the government ?

How does a Mechanical Engineer obtain a security clearance to help obtain other jobs?
You start by hiring into one of those companies without a clearance (even if they advertise for people with clearances, only), work your way up to a job that requires a clearance, and then the company will get you your necessary clearance.

Keep at it... they do hire non-cleared engineers all-the-time -- it's just cheaper for them if they can hire someone with a clearance already, so they don't have to pay for a new investigation/clearance.

.
Reply:You cannot get a security clearance until you need a security clearance.

So once you get a job that requires one, then the company can start the process to get you one. Once you have one and leave the job, it is deactivated but can be reactivated administratively for up to 2 years.
Reply:Yeah...you cant earn it unless you need it. sorry. and you can only earn what you need. so you cannot earn a top-secret clearance when you only need a secret clearance. If this is something that you are interested in obtaining, aim for a position in a field that would allow you to earn that clearance. Or, if you are still in school, i think the rotc sometimes helps a bit with getting those jobs. Not the program, but that you're in it. I had a friend in my Mech Eng program that wasin the AF ROTC and he got a job at a nuke plant and earned it.

What are some of the best jobs that require a two year degree?

I want to live comfortably. (Not doctor or lawyer comfortably). Just have enough money to pay bills and have a little left over for emergencies, vacation, etc. without having to go to college for a long time. I live by myself so I don't have to take of kids or anything like that. And I don't have to worry about car bills either. I would really appreciate you guys telling me about your jobs and what you love/hate about them. Thanks!

What are some of the best jobs that require a two year degree?
How about an A.S. in Nursing? Nursing is currently one of the hottest professions where demand far outstrips the supply. Registered Nurses(RN) earn close to $300-500 per day for an eight hour shift(around $50 per hour), depending on their experience, and the area they are located in. That, I think, should be 'comfortable' enough.

I read somewhere that Nursing and Information Technology are the two most hottest professions in the USA today. And in one of the articles(link given below), IT can be outsourced to India, but apparently Healthcare cannot, which includes the likes of Nursing.

There, did any of that help?

Reply:First you have to find something you like because their is no sense in having a good job that you hate. Once you see something you like, start researching salaries for those jobs. You'd be surprised at good paying jobs that don't even require any college degree. For example: an electronics technician working for a company usually earns anywhere from $24 to $30 per hour and their job is sitting at a table repairing, assembling and troubleshooting electronics. Again, you have to like it. Search online and you'll find what your looking for. Good luck!
Reply:You can get a 2 year degree to be a paralegal. I know you can make 30+ an hour. Also, dental hygienists make that much and you would only need a two year degree for that! good luck!

I didn't mind getting up and going to it, I didn't mind some of the BS I had to put up with either because I liked my job...when I had to move to another job I hated it, I realized it was the people that I worked with that made me love my job so much. The job I moved to I probably would have liked if the people made the job fun but they made the job miserable so I HATED working there. So in conclusion I think it's not necessarily the job but it's also the people you work with.

Who would you want to give jobs to, uneducated Americans or illegal mexicans?

The jobs for the uneducated will always be there. If we deport all the Mexicans won't we give a better chance to the lower class in our society? Won't deportation create a worker shortage which would drive up demand for workers and the wages?

Who would you want to give jobs to, uneducated Americans or illegal mexicans?
I am sorry are those coming in from Mexico Illegally the educated ones?

A work shortage will help Americans -it becomes an employee market and not the other way around (employers market which it is now). Than more benefits would be offered to attract employees. History!
Reply:an uneducated American, because they would have to pay federal taxes and won't have to stoop to the level of identity theft.
Reply:let's ask this question in a different way.... "would you rather hire uneducated american citizens OR uneducated mexican illegals? " the choice should be clear....i'd go for the uneducated citizens....vicente fox would love for you to hire his uneducated illegals. i wonder if mexicans would rather hire uneducated american illegals or their own uneducated mexican citizens? hmmmm........
Reply:Tha Mexicans. I like the Mexicans, they got funny accents. Imagine the US without them...
Reply:They should have the sense to work and learn then. There are so many programs to help uneducated people but no one takes advantage of it do they. Illegals do not look at a construction job or a cook position and say that is not for me I will wait for something better to come along. Furthermore as a restaurant manager I have found that the uneducated are not willing to work as hard, and demand more money. If they have a job they should work to better themselves not put the blame on the illegals that just gives them another excuse.
Reply:Then you have the educated Indian from India holding three degrees and doing your job thousand of dollars cheaper
Reply:Uneducated Americans, by far!! They're here legally and usually can speak and understand English. Deportation isn't going to create a shortage of workers; it will give unemployed citizens a chance to get real jobs. How can anyone support hiring illegals and paying them under the table, so that OUR taxes go to pay for their health and education?
Reply:Give them to people on welfare
Reply:yea sure absolutely those uneducated americans who have every oppertunity to be educated and have good jobs, but just decide to not take them VS the illegals that can only dream of having an education and will never have the respect it takes to get a good job! hmmmm who wins oh well that is up to you! because this country is yours right? oh and next time dont be such a racist prick!
Reply:What they all said.
Reply:I would give a job to uneducated Americans because you could probably get tooken to jail if you gave a job to an illegal Mexican and got caught
Reply:I'm with you buddy. You will have a lot of supporters here who of course will say uneducated Americans. I don't want to see anything go to an illegal Mexican. They have taken too much as it is. I would love to see all of these illegals and squirrel brained supporters go back to the crap hole they call their home. They don't care about America. They don't want to assimilate. They just want all of the handouts without ever paying into the system. They have taken this country for a free ride far too long. I like Sealrborders answer too...
Reply:Whoever is most qualified for the job. We need to start looking at this as a world and not as separate countries. What gives anyone the right to say that we built a line here and you can't cross it?
Reply:To Americans we need to take care of our own people first, not of these invaders.
Reply:send them packing
Reply:Good thought. Maybe.
Reply:Maybe, but it would probably drive up the cost of our fruits and veggies, are we willing to pay five dollars for a head of lettuce?????
Reply:Yes, it would create a greater demand for workers. However, we need to be careful about that . . . if businesses see any advantage to be had in relocating to another country, they just might do it. We've already lost a lot of production jobs to other countries. I'm afraid that if there were a major war, we could not win because we do not have the facilities to produce everything we use. So far, people have shrugged off the whole issue of outsourcing because the jobs being replaced are relatively low-paying ones. However, those are some of the most important jobs for maintaining this country's infrastructure. We will need to give businesses of all kinds valuable, positive incentives for remaining in this country if we are to remain a self-sustaining nation. I'm not sure what those incentives would need to be, but there need to be more of them than there are presently.
Reply:Hmmmmmm.

I like the response of give it to the most qualified! YES!!!

The first qualification is the LEGAL capacity to accept the job.

The LEGAL ability to pay into one's own Social Security account.

And by and large (although I admit this is not 100% of the time), there is not such thing as an EDUCATED illegal, as this question implied.

Construction workers and restaurant workers ( the two largest amount of workers are in these two fields, not vegetable fields, source US bureau of statistics. they know more than you and your personal opinions are worthless in the face of real verifiable numbrs!) do not need to be educated, and that is why they fill these jobs, because THEY are uneducated!
Reply:It would, however, illegal immigrants will work for much less than the uneducated American, that's why some people are fighting to make sure they can stay.
Reply:Mexicans...all americans are un educated in one way or another.
Reply:Capitalists, costs less to employ an illegal than it would an American.
Reply:Americans what the ****
Reply:i want a job for my self . if u can then try for me . ok .
Reply:So does that mean that the word illegal means Mexican. There are hundreds of races, which make this melting pot the dream of many and unless you are of full Native American decent you might just find that you yourself could be deported. As for as your question Skills and talents are not always learned from text. It is the ambition and dedication in a person that I feel any empolyer would look for in a person. This applies to Mexicans, Asian, Blacks, those uneducated and yes even the Whites.
Reply:unfortunately even the uneducated Americans think they are above doing most manual labor most illegals will work
Reply:Uneducated Americans.
Reply:An American, educated or uneducated! If everyone stopped hiring illegal immigrants, they would leave on their own.
Reply:I would have to go for the uneducated Americans, for the reason you mentioned. Ya know before I realized that, what they say about the flood of Mexicans who illegally immigrated into th U.S. , that they are going to take back several S.W. States including my Arizona I didn't give a hoot. But shortly thereafter I realized that these Mexicans were everywhere, and they seemed pretty well organized, they were working , buying %26amp; driving trucks %26amp; cars with insurance, and they had obtained Arizona Drivers Licenses, at that point it was a little late!
Reply:Definitely without a doubt - Uneducated AMERICANS!!!

Where do I claim the tax deduction for driving between different and seperate jobs in a single day?

I know the mileage between seperate jobs is tax deductible, but where do I claim it?

Where do I claim the tax deduction for driving between different and seperate jobs in a single day?
You'd put it on a form 2106, and the number from the bottom of that goes onto a schedule A. If you don't itemize, then you don't get the deduction.
Reply:It is deducted on Schedule A of your 1040, if you are able to itemize your deductions. It goes under job expenses and other miscellaneous deductions, which are subject to 2% limitation. This means that expenses in excess of 2% of your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) are deductible. You may need to fill out form 2106 to calculate the deductible miles, and associated expense. If you are not able to itemize, then by taking the standard deduction, your milage is basically included in it.

Reply:Honestly, very few. However, If you're very good at something in particular you may have the luxury of working at your own pace because the demand for your skill will not hasten to the next available average Joe if your constituents run short of patience.

Working an assembly line... you had better keep up

Flipping burgers... you must keep up

In other words, the desired product of those efforts require a trainable skill that your customers or constituents have no interest whatsoever how the item is prepared, constructed or produced as long as they get it when they want it. Sadly, the product is worth far more than the effort or skill required to produce it.

DaVinci worked at his own pace and few care. Interestingly in that case, the scarcity of his work as a result of working at his own pace makes his work more valuable.

Stephen King can take as long as he wants to write his next book and there's still a 99% chance someone will want to make a movie from it ... just like every previous book he has written.

You, in your own way can find a way to do it. These famous people are only clear examples and are not meant to deter you.

That sort of job is more common than you think, but those opportunities rank as a scarce few when compared to typical jobs. If you read outside of the lines a bit, perhaps you have a skill already or a capability that can be developed that can allow you to work in this way. It is possible. I have done it and continue to do so. This experience is far more rewarding than any of the dozens of typical jobs that I have had.

It's not necessarily what you do that's valuable... it's what you know how to do. Therein lies the job or occupation that will patiently permit you to work at your own pace.

How do you gain experience if jobs require experience to get hired?

I've been turned down from alot of jobs because I don't have experience (such as working in sales), even though i know I can do the job with ease. How am I supposed to get a job in selling things if nobody will hire me because I need experience? Most of my friends I know have said they lied to obtain jobs. Do I need to lie? Is that what this world is coming to? If not, how can I prove im worthy?

How do you gain experience if jobs require experience to get hired?
Its sad but even I found out that in some case if you want somethings in this world (especially in america) you have to lie but how to lie is a different thing. Even though you have skills you might not have the skills close to what they require. If you want the job in sales you have to sell yourself like you have done this before and if you have sold something before (garge sale, school candy sale, etc) tell them yes but make what you have done in the past sound professinal. I hope that helps if not you can e-mail me and i will explain more to you. Good luck.
Reply:The conundrum of the world. They all want experience but how can you possibly get experience if no one will give you a chance. All I can say, is do you really want to get a job based on a lie? Probably not, that doesn't say much for your morals. I would just keep trying. Tell them flat out..I can do this job.. Give me a chance, let me show you and prove myself. If nothing else, try used car sales, they hire almost anyone and if you don't hack they send ya packing pretty quick. If you're good, they'll keep you on and you can make good money and get experience in sales.
Reply:When you were growing up, did you sell anything for school as

a fund-raiser? Did you volunteer to sell your stuff at a flea market? Did you ever have a job selling newspapers? Did

you ever help your sibling, mom, dad, etc when they asked

someone to buy something from them or they suggested that

a certain item would be ideal to use? If so, then you have experience selling. It will not be a lie to say so.
Reply:internship. work for free for awhile to gain experience...or in ur friend case...lie.

How much would you pay for a high schooler to complete odd end jobs for you?

Assuming that the high schoolers are responsible and finishes the jobs to your satisfaction.

For instance, would you pay 20 dollars an hour for two to help you move out, or paint your house, or mow your lawn? 15 dollars/ hour?

When should I start applying for jobs?

I will be graduating from college this summer. My last day of school is July 26. I won't be able to work full time until I'm finished with school. Is it too early to start applying for jobs?

When should I start applying for jobs?
Absolutely not, but you must make your availability known to any potential employer because some jobs may require that you start immediately. By being active now, even if you don't find a job right away, you will be familiar with the process and in better shape as you near graduation. Good luck!
Reply:At least three months in advance in my opinion.
Reply:fall is the best time because students go back to school and so employers need helps so they will hire during the fall through the holiday time
Reply:Start applying now.
Reply:you could start now, it cant be too early...

the worst could happen is you'd start working before school ends
Reply:Yesterday. Get the word out. Most employeers/recruiters know you won't be available till after graduation. Just explain it.
Reply:When you dont have enough money and when you are old enough
Reply:I was in your same situation when I graduated in May. Everyone that i talked to recommended that I start applying for job six months before I graduated. However when I interviewed with companies they wanted someone that could start within one month. I had an interview with Eli Lilly to be a pharmaceutical sales rep, about three months before i graduated. Their hiring policy states that you have to wait for 6 months before you have a second interview if the first is unsuccessful. Applying to early really screwed me out of a great opportunity.

What is the word for bringing in cheaper foreign labor to fill domestic jobs?

I have been using the word "insourcing" to refer to the practice of bringing in cheaper foreign labor to fill domestic jobs, such as with the H1-B visa program or with the hiring of illegal immigrants. That seems like an appropriate word since it is effectively the same thing as "oursourcing" (or more accurately "offshoring"), but in reverse. However, a check of online dictionaries and encyclopedias indicates that this is not the proper use of the word "insourcing". Thus, I'm wondering if there is a more appropriate word to describe the phenomenon that I describe?

What is the word for bringing in cheaper foreign labor to fill domestic jobs?
Indentured servitude
Reply:Unscrupulous.
Reply:It's called "illegal"
Reply:A good question that is eloquently posed; but I do not think that such a word exists yet. It takes a while for common phenomena to be reduced to a single word. It took 200 years for capital to be generalized as capitalism; but they didn't have the net in those days. Invent a word. Use it often, and if people like it enough, it will appear in Webster. That's how all the other words got there.

Where can I find information on jobs involving the criminal mind?

I'm going to be heading off to college next year, and I wanted to get my majors and priorities straight.

I know it involves, psychology, criminal justice and maybe sociology. I was wondering which one should be my main priority, and what jobs involve studying the criminal mind in terms of how they think and why they do certain things. Websites or information would be nice concerning this or related skills.

I would like to know if there are work at home jobs that are given by the government? Surely there's something out there that people can do from home.

Are there any work from home jobs that are offered by the government?
Welfare!
Reply:The federal government is becoming more flexible these days and there are some jobs that can be performed at home.

One of the jobs I know that allows more work at home is economist however there is some travel involved.

I'm sure there are other opportunities.

.
Reply:A lot of government jobs wil allow an employee to telecommute or have "flexiplace" where you can work most if not all of your time at home. Usually, you have to start work in the office while you are training. Many agencies require 1 day in the office every two weeks or once a month.

What are the top growing financial jobs in the US?

I'm 15 and I want a career in the financial business. What will be some of the highest paying financial jobs in 7-10 years? Can I get internships somewhere at my age? What classes should I be taking right now?

What are the top growing financial jobs in the US?
Ok let's start with what you can do right now! You are fifteen and you want to enter the finance world when you are done with college. Finance used to be all about numbers, and while they are still the backbone of valuation it is as important if not more important to have a good understanding of computer software programs especially EXCEL. Employers are going to want you to be well-rounded, good with numbers, but likable and interesting. So take history courses, learn a foreign language, play an instrument and be well-rounded. Take advantage of high school because they offer these things and college won't as much and the real world really won't at all.

Now with that said, you really do want to make sure you are strong in your math fundamentals. Many high schools offer some general business classes like an introduction to accounting. If yours does then take it! Also, see about joining groups like FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America, and DECA which is geared towards marketing students.

Finance companies generally don't offer internships until you complete two years of college but at your age having any job is a good start. Work on building your work ethic up, and learning how to work as a team and with people you don't like in any type of professional setting will be invaluable experience. Best advice is to go after a retail job when you are 16 and when you start college attend every career/intern fair they offer.

Ok now telling you what jobs will be the best 7-10 years from now definitively just isn't possible. Finance moves to fast for that. Ten years ago was an eternity in the finance world. Now with that warning their are jobs that are always the highest paying. The first is to become an investment banker. They are the rock stars of finance, and can make millions. They ride in corporate jets, buy expensive things and they do so because they absolutely love what they do. They have to because they are at work 80-120 hours a week. A friend of mine is an IB for Deutsche and when he first started he was working from 6AM to midnight, seven days a week, with at least one day where he didn't go home at all.

Now it isnt always like that, and it does become a bit more normal eventually. However, you will be working a good 70-90 hours after you have some experience on a consistent basis.

The next best high paying finance job is going to work for one of the Big 4 accounting firms in public audit as an accountant when you graduate. They get started at the highest pay, but again work some grueling hours, and because they are in audit they have some horror stories. Most though use the experience to open doors to move to better jobs. Public audit will always pay well.

Financial sales is always a possibility as well. However, it requires an extraordinary amount of charisma to succeed in that field at a young age so you would have to determine what your strengths are, and ask yourself if you are ok working on commission because if you are good you can get paid a lot but if you struggle then you are hard pressed to pay your bills.

Either way at the age of fifteen you should be focused on getting into the best college you can. The way to do that is to do outstanding in school, get a high GPA, study study study for your SATs, play a sport or two, join a club or two and make sure you have a couple of good relationships with teachers because they are crucial for recommendations. Make school your priority above any retail job and look early at what programs you want to apply to.

Cheers, and good luck!
Reply:The most glamerous jobs are in the broker or investment advisor jobs. However these are highly copetetive and you can expect to have to perform greatly or be weeded out. The other areas of finance, banking and accounting are still pretty tried and true. Most jobs in marketing, sales, banking, etc. don't even require a degree in business but a lot of personality and desire. Accounting requires a 5 year degree now, a Masters Program and you can expect to have a job waiting for you when you get out of school.

How come we never do valve jobs anymore?

In the old days valve jobs were common. You never hear anyone say they had to have one anymore.

How come we never do valve jobs anymore?
Gasoline had the lead removed which required a different grade of material to be used on valves and seats, so they last longer. There are also systems cleaners that will remove many deposits from the valves.

However some of us still do a valve job at 80 to 90 thousand miles because there has been a loss of performance.
Reply:Both the answers are partially correct. The biggest reason is modern engines have less valve dammage is due to much better fuel management fuel injectors that spray just the right amount of fuel for conditions. This also accounts for longer engine life pistons and rings wear less. But wait! now many engines have oil change intervals at 7,500 miles so we trade valve jobs for engine sludge. Or low speed driving intake valve deposits.
Reply:Fuel injection has all but erased the carbon build up on valves.

When engines ran with a carburetor, the carbon build up was pretty bad.
Reply:Most of the currant answers are correct, this just ads to them.

In my day, valve seats were part of the head and materials were softer thus wear caused irregularities which had to be corrected. Burning valves due to high wear and temperatures.

When they started installing steel valve seats (pressed in) they pretty much solved the problems. Also the heads have better cooling circuits now, than they had back then.......

45 years engine mechanic, all sizes...........
Reply:improved metallurgy,multiple smaller valves,cleaner fuel

What engineering jobs will be outsourced to China and India in the near future?

Some say that engineering jobs are rapidly being outsourced to China and India. What jobs in the engineering field are the ones to go?

What engineering jobs will be outsourced to China and India in the near future?
Actually it doesn't matter. Losing jobs isn't important. Creating new jobs in new fields and filling them is more important. So, if say normal computer engineering is outsourced to India, then the US will create new computer engineering jobs using nanotech. You always want the old jobs being outsourced and creating the next generation of stuff in the country. You want to be Sony, not Audiovox.

The other good news is if you get your engineering degree then you are ready for any new type of job that is created. Engineering is more about learning how to think than stuffing your head with formulas.
Reply:(Infosys) The business world is being flattened by economics, technology, demographics. To win in this flattening world, companies must transform their way of working to seek and convert new jobs. It is possibles china, india and world. Apply Now!! Report It

Reply:Narrow answer to your question...design and CAD/CAE are moving that way (joining Software/computer engineering). This includes things like solid modelling, FEA and general design/modelling/analysis. Notably a good chunk of the people doing it here are of foreign origin (typically Asian or Indian subcontinent). Although these are "core" engineering functions - to someone running a business they are often considered commodity services, and with today's software/communication networks they can credibly be managed as such.
Reply:All of them as people will not be paid to replace the second generation of inventions they will likely not choose the field of engineering to study.

What other jobs have benefits similar to those at Verizon Wireless?

My best friend works for Verizon Wireless. She has full medical coverage and great dental. She brings in a very good amount of money. She also told me that they give you $8,000 a year for tuition reimbursement. I would like to apply there, as I am in the process of getting a 2-year degree, but have already tried once and been denied. It was over a year ago, and I'd like to try again. If I'm denied again, I'm wondering if there are any other jobs that pay well with great benefits like this? Verizon just seems too good to be true! (I have no medical coverage at all at my current job and am afraid of what will happen if I get sick or hurt.)

What other jobs have benefits similar to those at Verizon Wireless?
most companies have medical benefits, some have tuition reimbursement, but it has to be related to the job you are hired for (example - Verizon isn't going to reimburse your tuition to be a nurse)

How did young actors/actresses find jobs?

I know that all actors/actresses have these talent agents that lead them to auditions, but how about children?

Parents would not be as daring to get their child a talent agent just because he/she can pose cutely, etc, but we see all these babies and kids on TV.

How did they get the jobs?

How did young actors/actresses find jobs?
Living near a large city is an advantage, even a necessity, unless one is willing to relocate. Toronto, for instance, has agencies which will represent a child model or performer, if the child has what it takes. Parents must have a portfolio of professional glossy pics made up and then make the rounds, just as an adult performer would do. Sometimes it pays off. But it's no easy task.

How can i get more babysitting jobs without calling the people who hire me?

I am not looking for a site or anything to find babysitting jobs because i like to know the people that i am babysitting.

How can i get more babysitting jobs without calling the people who hire me?
If you know of other families for whom you haven't worked, you can let them know that you are available. If your present families are willing, they could give a recommendation - you could even print up a little flyer with that along with your rates, ages you sit for, experience, etc.

You may also ask your present families for referrals. Although you might not know the people, it's a little bit better I think if the contact comes from someone you do know.
Reply:Ask the people you babysit for now to give your name out as a referral. People usually will go for a personal referral, especially from a friend. Put flyers in mailboxes (just around your neighborhood). Good luck!
Reply:I had my mom casually say to her friends, "Quincy's started to babysit now and she's done wonders with ____" or something like that. People knew I was a responsible person and their kids loved me so I was a pretty easy pick. Now I babysit frequently!

What is the best way to apply for jobs across country.?

I live in Washington state, and I am moving to Buffalo, NY. I am not very old so I dont have a spectacular resume or anything but I am a good worker and I do have many skills. I have tried to apply for some jobs over there but no one will even respond! I want to have a job lined up before I go.

What is the best way to apply for jobs across country.?
Apply on-line. Most if not all corporations have a website and they will have careers listed on-line and guidelines for applying on-line. Include in your cover letter that you are relocating to that area so they know you will be in the area, many companies don't like to hire people who are not local except for very high end jobs, then often they are hiring them away form a competitor and paying for them to relocate. Most lower level jobs don't pay you to relocate so companies will shy away from out of town applicants. It might get easier once you have a local address also, then you can put it on your resume and use your current out of town address for a mailing address.

What are the jobs related to the biotechnology?

What are the jobs related to the biotechnology?
Please click on the link below you will obtain all the information you will need.

Good luck!
Reply:Biotechnology is a relatively new industry. It includes work in research and industry, your choice. From what I have read, more money can be made in private research or industrial companies than in academic institutions. The salary really depends on what you do. With a PhD, you can expect higher range 5 digit figures. With a BS degree, right out of college, in Illinois, at an academic institution, I'm looking at about $35,000 a year.

I will be majoring in Microbiology with a minor in Chemistry and Secondary Education(my back-up job). You need a strong background in biochemistry and microbiology.

A lot of biotech has to do with, but is not limited to, genetics, cells, and other small technologies. It can be agricultural, medical, economic, industrial. It has applications in many things. It is used in cheese-making, cosmetics, medicines, textiles, etc. It is obvious that there is plenty of opportunity here.

Basic job titles are lab assistant, lab technician, researcher, etc. all the way up to Scientist. Scientists have a PhD in their concentration and are in charge of the entire research team.

Feel free to contact me for more information.

This would be a great question if it were grammatically correct. Keep that in mind in the future, and you can get more and better answers.

How do you go about getting a goverment jobs?

Im looking for a job as a clerk in Social security office, police Dept, etc.... but i dont know exactly how to go about applying for those jobs.

help.

How do you go about getting a goverment jobs?
SSA: Go to USAjobs and do a search based on that agency and where you want to work. It will tell you all available jobs. You have to select jobs open to the public, the others are for people who already work for the gov. (with the exception of certain vets, disabled and others).

Currently, they don't have much open to the public:

http://jobsearch.usajobs.opm.gov/jobsear...
Reply:For local jobs, such as city or county jobs, go directly to their website. Type "City of YYYY jobs" into Google and chances are the site will come up.

For federal government jobs, go here:

http://www.usajobs.gov/

Individual states usually have job for that state. For example, for California:

http://www.spb.ca.gov/employment/

For your state, type in the name of the state into Google along with words "government" and "jobs." Chances are the official site will come up.

Each one has different application processes. The websites usually tell you how to apply.

What jobs are really out there for seniors who are semi-retired?

Seniors are qualified, but it's hard to find jobs that match our skills and abilities. It is said that companies want to hire seniors because we are reliable, but we find it hard to find those jobs, unless we want to make only minimum wage. What's up with that concept?

What jobs are really out there for seniors who are semi-retired?
I have personally been doing a bit of research on work from home companies for about 4 1/2 months now and i"ve run into quite a few good companies that you can do in your spare time and earn a stable income.People who work for these companies generally are college students, stay at home moms, retired persons, people looking for a second or third income. I have been scammed by a few companies as well I have all information posted on my blog for people looking to work from home I also have a list of companies to watch for. Most people think that if they charge a fee then its a scam but my research has proven to differ. Believe it or not most of the scams that I've been through were free to join you can view more info here

work4ufromhome.blogspot.com
Reply:You are quite welcome I'm glad i could be of assistance. Hope you find what you're looking for and good luck. Also bookmark my blog and check it because i try to update it daily for new scams and new companies. Report It

Reply:A lot of it has to do with the culture of the company. While retirees are mature and can bring a wealth of expereince, they can also bring health issues related to aging. Many companies are self insured so they are very aware of health costs.

I can tell you from personal experience that there are companies looking for mature, experienced people. In fact, when in my mid-50's a former employer told me to consider his offer the "beginning of my career, not the end of it".

Another problem can locale. The larger the city, the greater the opportunities.

The jobs are out there, you just have to look for them.
Reply:I agree that may seniors are physically and mentally capable of holding full-time good paying jobs, and many wish they could find them. While age discrimination is illegal, it's also a fact of employment, and difficult to prove. The reason more companies don't actively recruit seniors is due to liability issues. Statistics shows that seniors are twice as likely as their younger counterparts to injure themselves on the job. Even if a senior is medically covered by Medicare, federal laws require that all other health insurance options be used BEFORE Medicare will pay. Therefore, a companies Workman's Comp insurance is the first to pay out for job related injuries, followed by private health insurance and finally Medicare. This means if a company hires seniors, their Workman's Comp insurance will go up proportionally, and private health insurance costs are increased within their employee pool, on the likelihood that the employed senior will be injured on the job (require more care, take longer to heal, etc). Additionally, seniors are also prone to longer illnesses, and more time missed from work as a result. Many companies just don't want to deal with the scheduling issues when this occurs, so steer away from hiring the older population.
Reply:I think they worry about health benefits and how seniors have more serious illnesses, costing the medical plan.

Also, older people are often inflexible, resist change (learned this when I was a manager and had a few seniors working for me). And, younger managers are sometimes uncomfortable managing/leading someone the age of their parents.

I agree it's a shame, but there are reasons, rational and otherwise, that seniors have a hard time getting hired.

That said, if I do a search on google for

jobs seniors

I find millions of hits, like this:

http://www.aarp.org/money/careers/?sicon...

http://www.seniorjobbank.org/

http://www.seniors4hire.org/

http://www.seniorsforjobs.com/

If you haven't been diligently researching sites like this, then you aren't being resourceful (not trying to be rude, just honest).
Reply:You're correct - there's a lot of discrimination, as well as companies who don't comprehend the value of seniors.
