What are some adventurous jobs for someone who just dropped out of college?

Well, I guess it is a pretty stereotypical problem...I realized I hated college, dropped out, and am now looking for something different and new....I was curious about some great paying industrial jobs in isolated sections of Canada and Alaska...Any suggestions?

What are some adventurous jobs for someone who just dropped out of college?
You could do some of the jobs that "Americans won't do".. Really, if I could go back and do it all again I would have took a job overseas in some exotic place. But it helps if you have some kind of skill. I had electronics, refrigeration, plumbing, mechanics, carpentry, farming, food service, janitorial, and maybe a few more job experiences by the time I was 20.. I was working at 12 years old and wasn't afraid to try anything. So The question back to you is- What do you know how to do? There are lots of labor jobs everywhere. Some of them pay big money, like in Alaska. Some of them are very adventurous, like in Nigeria. There are so many that you could make a career out of just applying for them.. Good luck...

Why do jobs have such silly qualifications listed as requirements?

I'm looking at internships and they say the job requires excellent research and organization skills. Then it says the requirements are a "bubbly personality". Shouldn't the qualifications include things like education, time management, research skills, etc?

When the ad says that candidates should have a bubbly personality, it seems like the employer doesn't really have an understanding of what a candidate really SHOULD have to be successful at the job. A bubbly personality could mean an airhead that will lose lots of company money. They could on the other hand find a sophisticated person that has great skills that will earn the company money. A bubbly personality doesn't always mean good people skills. A laid back person may be better at talking to and convincing people.

I could see it as possibly being a preferred trait, but I'm not understanding it being listed as the first requirement. Why do jobs list things like bubbly personality for a market research internship?

Why do jobs have such silly qualifications listed as requirements?
The people who post the ads are not usually the ones who write the requirements. The ones who do the interviewing and such rarely see the ads. They are the ones who list the more serious requirements.
Reply:"Shouldn't the qualifications include things like education, time management, research skills, etc?"

Yeah they should but if they're hiring for a customer service rep they don't want a bunch of people that are well educated but have introverted personalities. Education is important but not everything. It really depends on the position. If it's a market research position it probably means the person is going to call people on the phone. If you're just calling people and asking survey questions (as many market research firms do) how much education do you really need? That person probably just needs to be able to read and speak clearly. Since most of these calls are annoying to people they probably want someone with a bubbly personality because they will be more likely to get people to respond.

I agree that bubly personality doesn't mean good people skills but most people that are "bubbly" are nice to talk to.
Reply:They just want to see if you will jump through the hoops for them and see if you mend-able to their needs.

If i Worked two jobs during the last year, do i file two forms or just combine the amounts?

I've never done my taxes before and havn't been able to find anyone to help me. So, i worked 2 jobs in the last year and got 2 seperate W2's. so when i'm filling out the tax form things do i do two different forms or just one and combine all the money stuff?

If i Worked two jobs during the last year, do i file two forms or just combine the amounts?
combine. It is your total for the year from all income sources.
Reply:Combine the amounts onto one tax form.
Reply:Just do one form.

Go to www.irs.gov and search around that website for answers on which form best suits your circumstances.

Depending on your income level and the amount and nature of your deductions, you may be able to submit a short form, which is quite easy.

On that form, you would combine your earnings from all your w-2s as well as the tax withheld, social security, medicare into one amount which would go in to appropriate boxes on your tax return.
Reply:You file only one Federal Tax Return with the wages you earned from January 1, 2007 thru December 31, 2007.
Reply:you need to make sure that you list both w2's and it will combined the toals for you depending on what tax your using like turbo tax with total them both for you and give you over 350 deductions? so go with turbo tax!

How do I bid Exterior Window Cleaning jobs?

I just received an opportunity to clean exterior windows on two residences, how do I bid these jobs? In addition one of the jobs is next door to my residence the other is roughly 50 miles away 100 miles roundtrip. Any suggestions?

How do I bid Exterior Window Cleaning jobs?
Well obiously, you'll profit more from the house next door, since you dont need gas to get there. By the way bid by sq. ft. figuer how long it takes to clean say 10 sq. ft., then divide by 10 should give a fairly close average per foot, Also concider height, a second story would be ,maybe double what a ground floor would be,be reasonable, but dont jip yourself either,Now for that far away one, since you have to charge the same per sq.ft. as the close one, work something out with the customer about travel.Gas aint cheap and keeps getting not cheaper. your customer will understand, I mean if your charging say a total of $25 but it costs you $10 in gas one way(its not fair to charge both ways) maybe they will agree to pay a travel fee of that $10 if not maybe they could pick you up and you find a way back(HEY MOM).or, get one of your little buddys and offer him $5 to clean the windows, maybe you'll hold the bucket, or hand him the squeegee which will make the work go faster, equals more $ per sq. ft.

What are some good jobs I can apply for with my Associates Degree in Film?

I have an Associates Degree in Film. I've been working in my field a little, but not as often as I'd like. I'm not able to move to LA where most of the Film Jobs are. I have a Wife and a Future family that I have to support and my current job as a Fim Projectionist Supervisor isn't working for me anymore. What kind of Jobs could I apply for that offer benefits and pay at least $10-$12 an hour? I've already applied to Marketing and Sales Jobs, as well as Cutomer Service/Call Center places. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

What are some good jobs I can apply for with my Associates Degree in Film?
Do you have any editing experience? If so there are always a ton of editing or assistant editor jobs in LA. Maybe you could look into that. Also you could look into PA (production assistant) jobs, but once again they might be few and far between. Its really about who you know! I know exactly what you mean- I have a film degree too (BA) but it's hard to have a steady source of income with film.
Reply:Look into City or State Jobs. They often have media productions, Marketing and other jobs in your field. It sounds like you would have ample education and experience to find a lucrative position. The pay can be quite good and with a family the benefits are unequaled.
Reply:Or can you say "How do you like your coffee" You are better off working at a car wash....
Reply:What about video production with the TV stations? You'd mostly be involved in producing commercials for the TV station's advertising clients, but it might pay a little better than what you're currently making.

Good luck.
Reply:Can you say, "Would you like fries with that?"

An associates degree in film? Did you get that online?
Reply:Congratulations on your degree!! Film is so exciting and ever-expanding.

I don't know where you're located geographically, but craigslist is always a good option. . . and there are job postings all over the US. Look under the tv/film/video headings.

Also, don't forget about local tv stations.... they usually have websites and job listings.... or even check out local colleges and universities-- a lot of times they'll have job resources/openings on their websites. Look into their career services... and of course, take advg of the career services department at the school you graduated from. I bet there's more there than you think.

And one other resource that people often overlook is their public library!! There are plenty of career-related books you could pick up and get ideas from.

If you are really in a pinch, you could try a temp agency, as well.

Good Luck!!

Surveying how many individuals who are Bipolar work and hold professional jobs?

I am trying to start a business. I tried to leave some information about my business at the office where I see my psychiatrist. He told me not to leave any information because it is a office of "sick" people. I know for a fact there are many individuals who are Bipolar who hold down professional jobs. Can anyone respond to this?

Surveying how many individuals who are Bipolar work and hold professional jobs?
This depends on the severity of the symptoms, med compliance, support system, coping skills, etc. Yes, many individuals with Bipolar Disorder hold down professional jobs. Many others are unable to do so. This is also true of the "general population," so don't forget that.
Reply:There have been times I have been hospitalized and could not work for short periods of time. It’s important to have a good support system. Having better coping skills. Listening to motivational tools to try and lift our spirits up is good. Faith in God will help in those times also. Report It

Reply:I was diagnosed with add/adhd last summer after failing my math course twice. Fortunately, the Massage Therapy department doesn't care about my math scores. I will eventually need to deal with math when I graduate and run my own business. The doctor who conducted my I.Q. test offered to prescribe medication for a math defect! I had to decline because I am 35 years old and I am so scared to be dependent on a pill that will not make me better at math, only more needy. So, I am not bipolar but just another American living under a label.
Reply:I began treatment for bipolar disorder mid-2003 and a year later I got a part time job where I worked 30-38 hours a week for two years and I've been working full time at my current job for over a year now. As long as I stay on my meds and change things accordingly when I start to go downhill I'm fully functional. And if it's relevant, I'm only in my twenties.
Reply:Well I am not quite there yet but I hope to be within the next year or 18 months. I have had Bipolar for 23 years and never held down a steady job, but was not ready to admit it until this year so I didn't get the help I needed. So that was down to me, My therapist does not see any reason within the next 2 years if I stick to my meds and follow the programme I cant hold down a job. So you go for it, its nice to see a success story.
Reply:i have a friend who is a respiratory therapist...and he holds a job just fine. granted...he takes his medications and follows doctors orders and is usually on an even keel.

What Are Some Good Jobs That Have Group Interviews?

What are some jobs (companies) that have group interviews instead of one on one interviews? I usually do bad at one on one interviews and don't get called back for the job and I usually get jobs where there are group interviews (with other applicants applying for the job) because they don't judge on what you say on the interview, just test your skills and train you? What are some other companies that do group interviews? Only people who know answer. Constructive advice only. Thanks!

What are good paying jobs in the animal industry?

I want a career with animals, but found the good paying jobs are to do with vetinary care which i have no interest in as i cannot stand the sight of blood and seeing animals in pain. Is there anything else i can do that has good pay?

What are good paying jobs in the animal industry?
I dont know how much your looking to make for it to be a good job. But with being a Vet you can also work for Zoo's and things like that. You dont have to set up private practice and deal with sick and injured animals.

Animal Husbandry also pays well if your in the right situations, but it can also be quite dead end.

I dont think you'll ever be wealthy working with animals but there are a few jobs out there that pay pretty decently (besides the afore mentioned vet, which you dont want)
Reply:working with animals has never really been financially rewarding, you could be a dog trainer, behaviourist, work for guide dogs or another assistance dog organisation, dog grooming, zoo, animal rescue homes such as dogs trust, cat protection, I do not think you can work with animals and have good pay but it has job satisfaction
Reply:teach some squirrels how to water ski, then after months of practice take them on tour
Reply:How about working in a Dog beauty Parlour, or an Animal rescue centre, or if you live in a town with a zoo, you could do any amount of different jobs there. Or working in an animal sanctuary, or wildlife centre.

Have a look in your Thompson Directory, or local Yellow pages under Animals, and just give people a ring.

If you are very enterprising, and can drive you could do the same that we have in our town. There is a mobile doggy hairdresser. They have a special wash and blow dry unit that goes to peoples houses, and beautifies their pooches outside their houses.

Where are the best jobs in hotel management & how much do they make?

I'm interested in a career in hotel management. I'm interested in which states the most jobs are located and the salary of someone in such an occupation. Thanks for any info!

Where are the best jobs in hotel management %26amp; how much do they make?
One of the greatest aspects of hotel management is that YOU can choose where you want to be, and rest assured that there will be work there for you. Of course, the larger the city, the more opportunity for growth and development.

In hotel management, the most important element to your growth will be EXPERIENCE. Therefore, getting a four-year degree in hotel management will not be as helpful as four years of experience, but the combination of both degree and experience is very powerful. If you decide to get a degree without getting experience, plan on starting at the bottom of the ladder when you are done.

Knowing this, the best places for jobs are those that receive the most tourism/travel business- Las Vegas, New York, Chicago, LA, for example. But there are also great opportunities in smaller areas that rely heavily on tourism: National Parks, Ski Areas, etc. As I said before, choose where you want to go, then look for jobs there.

Hotel management salary is average. You WILL NOT become a billionaire in hotel management, but you will also not suffer. Salary ranges from about $25,000 for a small (50 room hotel) to 6 figures for very huge hotels. This amount does vary widely based on your location, of course.

Hope this helps, and here is a link for more info:

Reply:If you are interested in a more selective schedule and refined job requirement, then sales would be more suited for you.

Although not as demanding as operations management, your schedule and area of expertise will be more desirable. Report It

Reply:However, keep in mind that you will be required and expected to meet your goals and it can get pretty cut-throat with minimal margin for mistakes or loss of sales opps. Report It

What are the best entry level corporate jobs?

I am graduating with a Marketing degree and am searching for the best entry level corporate jobs. I am not particularly dying to do sales, but I will if a good job comes up. Any recommendations? Thanks!

What are the best entry level corporate jobs?
Go to large, household name companies - That is where you will learn the most in marketing (Proctor and Gamble, Kaybee Toys, Microsoft, Amazon, AIG, Smith Barney, Nike, Reebok, Pepsi/Frito Lay, Coke, Xerox, Kodak...sports promo/event companies, record companies, sports teams or leagues...any big dog in the Pharmaceutical Industry)

Think more about what you can learn from the best over the next 5 years, and work your tail off to absorb and grow...you'll be alot more successful in the long run and you'll develop the habits to make you successful whether you stay within those companies, or leverage that into a start up or eventually a consulting practice.

You can also start in any of those companies in some sort of customer service role, but consiustantly badger them into picking up projhect work and overflow into marketing and you will steer yourself right into what you want to do somewhere in the forst 9 months on the job.

If you decise to go with a smaller company, make sure you are going to learn from the management/leadership and/or the product/industry are in line with exactly what you want to do. You can learn alot in these kinds of companies, but don't get lagged into a "tier 2" mentality. Keep that new grad passion and succeed with resolve, so you can go somewhere more substantial after 2-4 years.

Don't take ever a sales gig if you are not passionate about it, because it's very hard to be successful at it if you are not absolutely confident, resolute, and committed to success.

Good luck!

What is a good way to classify jobs into categories?

I have to do a project where I chart all the jobs in a city directory and want to classify like all the jobs into like maybe like 7 categories.

What is a good way to classify jobs into categories?
Technical, administrative/clerical, professional, skilled trade, mechanical, beauty, financial, legal, labor, sales, health care, government.

I know this is more than you want, but as you look at the jobs, you can choose which category they fit in and go with only those. Another way to find these categories is to look in the classified section of your newspaper and you will see the job categories they use.

That way you are FORCED to be constantly talking with other people, and you can hear all day long, how words and sentences are to be spoken.

How well do they research employer history for government jobs?

I really really need a job, and hopefully a decent one. My work history isn't the best because of a lot of moving and living out of country and some bad expirences. So I would like to know how well they look in to your past work history, I would just like to put one of my jobs down and leave it at that, but I know from the past some jobs require all sorts of things like a criminal screening (not a problem) and your full work history of anything you ever done. So please state, government workers give me an answer. By the way this is just for a library clerk.

How well do they research employer history for government jobs?
The only risk you may assume by omitting employers it that when they do the background check (this includes financial) they will see that you have filed W2s or things of that sort under other companies. Tax history is a huge give away for ANY employer to verify where you have worked and for how long.

I dont think your situation is anything to be concerned about but in the future keep that in mind!!

Good luck!!
Reply:If you have no problems with your legal history and you haven't been fired for drinking on the job, you should be fine. Library clerk is probably pretty low on the 'screening for terrorists' radar.

Does having alot of jobs affect me getting hired for a police department?

Ive had a job since i was sixteen and all through college i also had different jobs. Does it look like i am an irresponsible person to the police department if i have had a lot of jobs. And what are my chances of me getting hired if i have had al ot of jobs?

Does having alot of jobs affect me getting hired for a police department?
They do look for people who can hold a job but it won't necessarily disqualify you. They do an excessive background check anyway and will probably look into why you left and/or if you got fired, or if you quit. I wouldn't stress about it.
Reply:You do not state your age now. However, having been gainfully employed since 16 does evidence a sense of responsibility. The number of jobs does not mean as much as why you left the jobs. Better opportunity, better pay, better hours, better location, etc., are all good reasons. However, being fired repeatedly is not good.

Be careful what you write on your resume for leaving jobs. I've seen some beauts as a former Chief. Alarm bells go off when you read reasons for leaving last job, like: "Didn't like boss"; Lousy hours"; "Made me work in the rain"; and my personal favorite, "ugly co-workers".

Comments like those do not get you hired.
Reply:i hate seeing people giving out bad information.the poster who said a unstable work history is not a problem does not know what they are talking about.the department has to be able to count on someone coming to work.they will have to rely on him being there for a while.if he has a unstable work history it will eliminate him.----retired texas deputy sheriff----

What would happen if i didn't file one of my jobs on my taxes?

I work 2 jobs, one is full time and the other is a part time, I don't even think I make over 8,000 dollars there in a year. I was wondering what would happen if I didn't file them on my taxes, I get less back.

What would happen if i didn't file one of my jobs on my taxes?
The job will report your earnings, so the IRS will know you lied on your taxes. They may adjust your return, but more likeley you will set yourself up for trouble. If you didn't earn enough to be taxed you won't, but that isn't decided by how much you make at one job, but by how much you make in total.

In short, don't leave it off.
Reply:The IRS receives notice of any W-2 you receive. The W-2 is an IRS form.

If you omit a W-2 from your tax return, you will certainly receive a notice from the IRS. It may take a year or two, but you will certainly receive it. In the meantime, the taxes you may owe will be subject to penalties and interest, which may substantially increase the amount owed. You may be charged penalties for underreporting income and for not paying on time.

If you received an increase in refund by not reporting the second W-2, you will have to pay that refund back with interest from the date of your original tax return.

If your refund included Earned Income Credit to which you were not entitled, you may be excluded from receiving the EIC for up to 10 years.

So, it is pointless to try to omit a W-2 from your tax rturn.
Reply:If you would get less back why would you leave it off?

If you get audited you could face legal problems.
Reply:If you don't file it, the IRS will still get a copy of the W-2 from your employer, so they'll send you a letter telling you that you omitted part of your income from your return, and tell you how much additional tax you owe and give you a date to pay it by. It can take quite awhile, a year or more, before they find it, and by then, interest and penalties will have accumulated so you'll owe a lot more that if you had just paid it in the first place.
Reply:The IRS will catch up with you in a year or two and will send you a bill for the taxes owed, plus penalties and interest. They already know how much you made and how much was withheld so it's a fool's mission to not file properly.

You will get audited, that's pretty much guaranteed. You won't go to jail, that's reserved for the worst of the worst.
Reply:Thats a gamble. I did that once totally by mistake. It took them 2 years, but they caught up with me. I now owe the IRS alot of money. I wouldnt do it. You dont want to F* with Big Brother.
Reply:We will catch you...
Reply:you could be audited, fined, jail time...who knows what all fun stuff you could be in for...yippee (file your taxes properly)
Reply:If you are paid cash, you most likely will get away with it. If you are paid by check, you will be caught, fined, and depending on amount owed and length of time frauding the government, could face jail time.

Now is it worth it?

What are some good jobs in the medical industry?

I'd like to either work in an asylum or opperate.

What kind of jobs are there?

What are some good jobs in the medical industry?
That depends on your current skills and education, what you want to accomplish and what you are willing to put into it. Some careers that are going remain in great demand for the foreseeable future are: Physician/Doctor, Nurse, Pharmacist, Physical Therapist and Speech Therapist. Some jobs I would stay away from because of the shift to offshore work is medical transcription and medical coders. A clinician type education and experience (Doctor, nurse, pharmacist, etc.) is valued by hospitals, insurance companies, software companies and consulting companies.

Why people from outside the UK are required to do scientific jobs?

Why cannot the British take care of jobs in IT for instance? Why people are required from the outside?

Why people from outside the UK are required to do scientific jobs?
I'm a recruiter in the IT industry and actually in the vast majority of cases, jobs based in Britain are filled with British citizens. This is mainly because people from outside of Britain do not speak good enough English. Also, EU laws make it very hard to employ people from outside of the EU - so people from countries like India who would love to come here are often unable to. And even though EU citizens can go and work in any EU country, most people choose to stay in their own countries - the only people who want to come here are unskilled workers who think they'll get a better life elsewhere, not IT professionals.

At a company I worked for previously, we did sponsor a few employees to come from India, and this was because this particular company offered a very low wage for the skillset they required - I'm talking about £10k less per annum than their competitors. Thus they found it hard to attract British staff who would obviously choose to work for a competitor - bearing in mind that unemployment in the UK is very low and people really can pick and choose what company they'd like to work for. So I think the answer to your question is, the British *can* take care of jobs in IT - they just *choose* not to.
Reply:What are you on about? We don't need overseas IT workers, or are you talking about the likes of Indian call centres? We don't need them, but they are 75% cheaper than UK call centres, but in many cases are a complete failure as the language barrier is too big. Many companies are having to bring call centres back to the UK and have the extra costs as no-one can stand the sub-standard overseas ones. As they say, you get what you pay for.
Reply:Everything is economics - supply and demand.

All the best British scientists go over the pond to the United States for many reasons - far better research departments and grants, and a government and society that really fosters ingenuity and development.

Factor this over the course of the last 30 years, British universities begin to lose their best researchers. As they begin to slide, enrollments in science courses over here falls like a stone, coupled with a drop in admissions standards - compare Physics undergraduates today to years ago!

The result: labour in these very academic research posts needs to be imported.

What makes a person take low paying jobs when they know they are smart enough to get a better one?

I have a BA in Communications--in '95. But I have taken low, secretarial type jobs for most of my life. I keep being told I can get a better job. I am working as a legal assistant. It feels like I'm stuck in this world. Is it low self-esteem, lack of motivation?

What makes a person take low paying jobs when they know they are smart enough to get a better one?
Maybe you just don't have the confidence to seek other jobs because your afraid of getting rejected or just don't want to go through the interview process again.

Reply:Your in a vicious circle you need to get out of it.there is no reason why you keep taking those kind of jobs when you can do better with the job and the pay.my husband is kind of the same he has a great job now makes 22.00 an hour works 30 hrs over time brings home 1000.00 a week its he profession he knows but want something else so i dont really get it but start applying for what you know dont just settle anymore you can do better and u need to motivate yourself.

Reply:it could be self esteem...but it could also be that there aren't any openings in your field and you take what you can for the time being
Reply:Do it. I had to "move up or move out" at my old company. They didn't have any openings, I was "too valueable" in my position. Now, I am earning TWICE my former salary.

"Is it low self-esteem, lack of motivation?" You tell me. Be honest with yourself.

What are some good stay at home jobs for women?

I am recently divorced, get very little child support for my daughters that live at home with me %26amp; I homeschool them. With my current housecleaning jobs I am away from them too much. What are some jobs that I might look in to where I wouldn't have to be away from them right now while they need me?

What are some good stay at home jobs for women?
Do yourself a favor and help your family out all the way around.Get a real job such as a receptionist or a sales woman that involves a monday through friday work week and put the children in public schools.Children need to interact with other children their own age and need the education that a single parent cannot give. Please do not take it the wrong way but most parents that try to homeschool children usually have problems with them in later life due to their developments. With you being a single mother and trying to struggle to find work and not spending enough time with the children will only cause greater problems and stress.

What does working multiple jobs have to do with CEO compensation? What does adequately compensated mean and how does it relate to CEO compensation? The two are separate issues.

What does working multiple jobs have to do with CEO compensation?
CEO pay is an amount negotiated between the CEO and the company board of directors. It is largely determined by market forces. That is, how much can a CEO get from other companies doing the type of work we want to hire him for.

Your question about "multiple" jobs is somewhat nebulous but has little to do with CEO compensation, which is market driven.

Is there any ledgit work from home jobs?
Having been in your situation a little while back I looked into a LOT of programs, some of which were scams (a good many), some of which paid but not enough to make it worth your time, and a very few that actually worked.

Be wary of programs that want you to pay a large start-up fee. Read thoroughly their terms of service and make sure they are going to be offering you a service worth that fee.

In resources I will list a few of the companies that I've found to actually pay worth the time I put into them. Keep in mind that not every program will work for you and be selective. Track the results you get from each program.

Good luck finding the one that works best for you!

What are the best non-research jobs for a person with an MA in Biology?

Having spent the better part of five years in academic labs, I want to find out information about jobs that reward the Masters degree but do not confine me to bench work. What are the best jobs for Master in Biology, and how does one go about applying/getting that job? I'm assuming one can't readily get these jobs through job sites.

What are the best non-research jobs for a person with an MA in Biology?
You could look into becoming a Biology professional at a local community college or university. You could market yourself as a consultant for research companies and take up being a travel-on-site biologist. Get in touch with your local politicians, they hire project centers that research and market environmental law for lobbyists. Volunteer for FEMA or Peace Corp. Looking into become a paid civilian for a branch of the US military. The great thing about biology is that you can do it anytime, anywhere so long as the Earth is still in existence.

Attend teaching college and get a formal degree

* major in teaching

* minor in english language

Include that on your resume

Look into how prospective schools are ranked ... public, private, relitious ... if you are teaching at a school, or university, that is top ranked for students to attend, the odds are that the teachers are also high caliber, and get commensurate salaries.

What kind of jobs can someone get with a degree in sociology?

I plan on taking some time off between my BA and postgraduate work in order to determine an area of concentration. What jobs will I be able to get with a BA?

What types of international careers are available to sociology graduates?

What kind of jobs can someone get with a degree in sociology?
When you're in college, thinking about the job market, there are a few things you need to realize. One of them is that 99% or so of the jobs that require a degree do not require a specific major. Those that do tend to be in universities, or in K-12 teaching, where you need to have specific education classes anyway.

Another is that most employers are going to be more interested in the skills and abilities you bring to the workplace than the classes you take. I had a friend who was a straight-A student in philosophy and ancient history. When he decided grad school wasn't for him, it was a good thing he'd had those summer jobs programming graphics! Many college graduates find that it's not their GPA that gets them a good job, it's the stuff they learned to do in their spare time.

The next one is tough to swallow. If you're in your early twenties, you may find that the folks who didn't go to college, or just went a year or two, and have been working dead-end jobs since then, will be making about as much money as you do for several years. That's because employers value a combination of education and experience.

Folks with education but not much experience will not be highly valued, any more than folks with some experience, but not much education. The income gap shows up when you get older. US Census data shows that folks with advanced degrees in their 30s, 40s, and 50s make much more money than their same age counterparts with less education.

If you want an international career, go for international experience now. Nobody wants to hire somebody who has never lived outside the country, never had culture shock, for an important international position with a lot of responsibility (Once you've experienced culture shock, you'll understand why). But graduate schools in the social sciences are very interested in people who have lived in a foreign culture for a few years--even if you were just teaching conversational English in a cram school. You might check out the JET program and consider teaching English in regular Japanese schools.

If you can look around with your sociology training, once you figure out what you are looking at in the foreign culture, you can probably come up with a thesis topic to propose in a graduate school application. Once you've got that idea, you can research to find out who does that kind of work on graduate faculties.

You can contact those professors by e-mail, briefly outline your interests, and ask questions. In a way, professors are more interested in students who can take some guidance than students who have all the answers.

I've served on an admissions committee in a graduate department in the social sciences, so let me give you the inside scoop. In many social science departments, if you can't find a professor in the department who shares your interests and agrees to serve as your provisional advisor, you aren't getting in no matter how impressive your test scores or grades.

What kind of jobs can you get with a Business Marketing degree?

What kind of jobs can you get with a Business Marketing degree? What is the average salary for employees who have this degree? What should I do to prepare myself for this career? And does Arizona have any good schools for this degree?

What kind of jobs can you get with a Business Marketing degree?
An interesting degree. Most likely, your coursework will consist of a Business Administration core with a Marketing concentration. Your core will include finance and accounting, while the concentration will focus on public relations, marketing analysis, maybe even some stats.

Business Marketing is fairly focused on the marketing aspects of business. This means that positions in management are probably shut off to you (unless it is a management track position in a sales division), and positions in finance are out of the picture.

The exact type of work you will do will depend upon your qualificiations. The more technical your background, the more will be opened to you. My wife, for instance, has a background in English (no business classes) and does web design and copywriting work. I have a strong background in economics and statistics, and I do modeling, forecasting and analysis of marketing data.

If you have a language-based background (writing, speaking, presentations), this will open different doors than one that is more technologically-focused (database analysis, programming, EViews, Excel, SAS, SQL, PeopleSoft). A blend of both would be awesome, but is hard to do.

Arizona's two top-tier institutions - ASU and U of A - both have strong reputations in the Midwest and West, as well as very large alumni networks. Northern Arizona State - in Flagstaff - is a gorgeous campus but its academic reputation is not as strong.

An alternative option may be to major in the area that suits your interests most strongly - ie, Business Communication, Information Systems, Finance - and get an MBA to allow you to do more technical work. Remember that an MBA is preferred for even entry-level positions in business; it is easier to get a job with a bachelor's in a highly technical or abstract field such as Computer Science, Math, Finance or Accounting.

Starting salaries depend upon the city, but will generally be around 110% of the average in a metropolitan area - $30,000 in the Midwest, $36,000 in California, etc. Of course, salary will increase with experience and expertise. Especially, a native or at least advanced fluency in a foreign language (particularly Spanish, Chinese, Japanese or French) will help boost this potential and provide you with international exposure.

Reply:We’re changing the scientific protocols and procedures to make indoor air not just pleasant, but to safely remove from our indoor environment many dangerous and harmful substances.

You already know that Fresh Air by EcoQuest is the only air purification system endorsed by and approved by The Space Foundation as is used in NASA space vehicles and space stations. Here’s some things you may not know:

 Our units were placed in the Pentagon after the horrors of 9/11 prevented humans from entering and working because of burnt jet fuel, burnt building materials, and the tragedy of burnt human bodies. After sending 2 18-wheelers of our units to place in offices on Friday, employees and service members returned safely to work on Monday.

 Highly technical, delicate equipment in Iraq was being damaged by the baby-powder fine dust that could not be kept out of work areas at a military facility there. The cramped living and working quarters of the military members contributed to odors, transmission of communicable illnesses, breathing challenges. After installation of 10 Fresh Air units, the entire facility as well as the well-being of the personnel changed dramatically for the good.

 Lamar University Museum contained priceless, irreplaceable artifacts when Hurricane Rita struck. Every professional estimator was adamant that most of the artifacts were mold infested and a total loss. The costs for repair and restoration of remaining artifacts and displays was astronomical. Our top commercial/industrial experts used our equipment and not one artifact or display was lost, the entire building was safely remediated at a fraction of the cost bid by other companies using older technologies.

 Schools, restaurants, courthouses, bars, hospitals, and residential customers (millions of them) rate our technology from 93 to 98% satisfactory… and no wonder!

 Particulates drop 250 times faster than with gravity alone. 99% to 99.9999% kill of staph, resistant staph, strep, type 3 virus (this is Avian flu virus family) molds; mildew; stachybottrys mold; e-coli; salmonella; etc., etc… all proven in independent laboratory tests for surface and airborne infections. Removal and deodorizing of tobacco smoke; 100% removal of many VOCs.

For your use, this means your home smells clean and fresh…. Those 10,000 bacteria on your keyboard are reduced 99.9999% so only 1 remains. Those airborne and exposed molds are killed and the gasses emitted by them swept from the air. Pet dander swept out of the air, dust and dustmites swept away, pollens swept away. You breathe more freely when the air is clean. But you can rest more easily knowing you have taken the best steps you can to ensure a healthier indoor environment for you and your family and guests!

Hi. Uh, you didn't say what kind of degree you have but there are many different jobs you can get. If you had some type of business degree you could work in an office doing accounts payable or something like that. You can be an LPN. If you had some schooling in the electrical/plumbing %26amp; all that it would be good. You can be a veternarian assistant. Funeral services. There are alot of jobs out there. Accounting is very much an in demand field. Once you graduate you won't have trouble finding work as long as you have the degree. Count your coursework as experience.
Reply:Don't take a job, just study hard, get great grades, sit for and pass the CPA (or whatever your local national equivalent is), and land a job that way. The kind of work you'd do as a CPA is reasonably far removed from the work of a clerk, so you wouldn't necessarily gain a lot of knowledge through the college job.

What kind of jobs would I be looking at with these majors in college?

-Sociology

-Social Work

-Psychology

-Literature

-English

-Business

I would also like to minor in Spanish.

I was just wondering what types of jobs I would be looking at if I minored in Spanish and majored in any of the above.

Thanks!

What kind of jobs would I be looking at with these majors in college?
All of those are going to require a graduate degree for you to work in the field. Make sure you know that beforehand.
Reply:While most of these degrees would require a graduate degree to work in the field, most undergraduates in these degree programs are not actually interested in working in these fields. Undergraduate degrees give you an education rather than career preparation with the exception of obvious practical subjects such as nursing.

Career paths that open up range and are entirely dependent on the individual rather than the individuals specific education.

If you want career preparation, consider apprenticeship and post-secondary diploma programs.

What kind of jobs can I get with a bachelors in phychology?

and what is the pay?

If I went ahead and got my masters, what jobs could i get and what would the pay be for that career?

What kind of jobs can I get with a bachelors in phychology?
bartender
Reply:human resources for a company or anything dealing with people. generally, any job dealing with people could be a good fit. sales. you will probably be dealing with entry level positions and the pay scale is different for different companies. some hospitals like md anderson or texas childrens have a program for children and the position is simply playing with them. if you got your masters you might hang your shingle as a therapist. it would definitely open more doors for a specialized field.
Reply:With a bachelor's in psychology, you're still pretty much limited to the entry-level jobs in human services...think in the $20,000-$40,000/year range. You can actually go several different directions with the Masters: a MA in Pyschology, of course, or Social Work, or my personal favorite, Rehabilitation Counseling. Figure that the Masters will let you add $10,000-$30,000 per year more as your career develops.

More importantly, it lets you do some of the more interesting work and puts you in the hunt for leadership/management positions, if that's your thing. And those pay better still.

In 2005, USANA ranked #4 on Forbes' list of 200 Best Small Companies. In its October 31, 2005 issue - Forbes reports the companies that made its elite list are "solid and consistent hitters that have performed well when measured over the last 12 months and the past five years, and are poised for another growth spurt."

USANA also placed in the top 20 in Forbes list of 200 Best Small Companies in 2004.

MLMInsider announced the results of its Distributor Choice Awards for 2005. Once again, USANA was selected by thousands of network marketers as the #1 company in network marketing! What kinds of jobs and what are the processes do you have to go to as a 15 year old?

Pretty good and easy "best answer" if you're familiar with jobs.

yeah, I'm only 15 and I'm looking for a job. I don't know how to get a work permit, a bank account or any of that stuff.

Like, step by step.

Someone guide me on how to : -%26gt; get a work permit -%26gt; bank account.

a bonus would be if you could give me a list of jobs 15 year olds are applicapable of.

I live in the bay area (San Jose) It'd be helpful if someone can give me tips on what jobs to get as well.

No, you may not get my street address, for those pedos out there.

Thanks!

What kinds of jobs and what are the processes do you have to go to as a 15 year old?
Here's a short list of jobs which you can create to generate income:

1. Learn calligraphy so that you can provide handwritten invitations and thank you notes to prospective wedding parties, birthday celebrations, etc. Seek out clients through wedding planners at nearby churches and temples. A starter calligraphy kit usually runs around $20 and anyone can easily pick up this skill. The going rate is usually $1 per hand addressed item.

2. Become a "poser" who assists wedding photographers in setting and arranging various individuals in group and single photographic positions. "Posers" carry around a sketch book of various sitting and standing poses which consists of onion skin overlays of various wedding pictures bound in albums. Again, contact local wedding photographers and wedding planners, accordingly. The hourly pay is around $10-$12 per hour and you are often invited to attend all dining activities.

3. Seek from your neighbors a gardner position which involves planting, weed removal, plant/tree trimming, light brush clearance. You will be using the neighbor's equipment and tools. Again, do not represent yourself as a lawn mower since there are any number of safety issues involved. A door-to-door solicitation of surrounding neighbors is required and you can charge between $6 to $9 per hour.

4. Offer policing/removal or clearance of trash services to surrounding neighbors which involve trash pickup within nearby residential area. Limit the extent of pickup to small areas and be aware that there are no hazardous terrain or elements involved in this process. Again, a door-to-door solicitation of neighbors is in order. You can charge between $6.75 to $7.50 per hour.

5. Acquire a set of window cleaning tools [a bucket, liquid window cleaner, sponge, squeegee, handle with an extension and a small step ladder] and solicit local businesses for your window cleaning services. However, be careful to limit the height of the window cleaning to no higher than one story. Charge $1 per window panel.

6. Become a proxy/stand-in for neighbors to allow delivery of goods and packages to your home/apartment. Acquire the authority to sign any receipt of incoming packages as an accepting neighbor. Charge $1 per each package handled by you.

7. Consider becoming a restaurant-cafe customer liaison by using your cell phone at restaurants-cafes to coordinate with the hostess to keep track of waiting customers. Whenever there's a very long period of time to activate a waiting list, you want to offer the restaurant your services so that customers do not have to stand around for any lengthy period of time. And when their name/assigned number comes up; you can call the upcoming customer's cell phone to tell them that they can return to the restaurant and be served. The call back fee is usually around $0.50 cents on a per head basis. For example, a couple would be charged $1.00 while children under 6 would not be charged. Placement of a plaque which outlines your fee schedule near the hostess station is sufficient to garner attention of prospective customers who will value your services since they can do other activities outside of the restaurant -- often beyond the range of any inhouse paging system. You realize that everyone has a cellphone and why not take advantage of the connectivity to make the diner's experience worthwhile. The restaurant will also appreciate the added service you are providing as a customer liaison.

8. Why not become a paid feeder servicing the disabled at nearby nursing, convalescent, assisted living/care centers and hospitals. It involves feeding food to patients who are unable to feed themselves. The starting rate is $8.00 per hour. The only downside is that one has to take precautions to wash one's hands after each feeding. A posting of your services [by a business card or flyer] on a reviewable bulletin board would be enough to generate customers. The paid feeder position is one of the fastest growing occupation at this time.

Good luck!
Reply:well im also only 15 and looking for a job.

when i first decided i wanted to get a job i asked my parents if they could help me set up a bank account. i got that done. you just go to the bank and ask if you can get a bank account.

you also have to decide what kind of job you want to start with. in my oppinion the best ones to start off with aqre either retail jobs like working in stores, or working in the food services. this is where people usually higher teens.

then, once you found a place that you want to work at get an application form, fill it out(you may also want to write a resume) and bring it in. if they consider you they will cll you back for an interview. dont get offended if they say NO and dont higher you

i dont know what else to add, but heres a good site to find a job
