I am getting ready to go back to school after taking a few years off and need to decide on a major. In a perfect world, I would be a social worker, but cannot support my family with that income. Of course doing a job I love is more important than money, but I also have little mouths to feed. I don't want to settle on something I don't like though, so I was considering a major in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. What types of jobs are available for people with that kind of degree?
What types of jobs can you get with a Psychology Degree with a minor in sociology?
you can be ao corperate counselor- I have a buddy who does that.
you could seek out a consintration in any psych field %26amp; become a family counselor, or any other sort of counselor. (schools, corperations, free lance ect...)
with those field choices though- you won't get anywhere w/o a masters degree
Reply:Mental Health/Social Services Area
(A minor in family and child studies, justice studies, health and aging studies, or sociology would be helpful)
behavior analyst, director of volunteer services, probation/parole officer, case worker ,drug/substance abuse counselor, program manager, child protection worker, employment counselor, rehabilitation advisor, corrections officer, family service worker, residential youth counselor, counselor aide, group home coordinator, social service director, day care center supervisor, mental retardation unit manager, %26amp; veterans' advisor
however, being a psychology major myself I have to tell you that there isn't alot of money to be made with just a bachelors in psychology. Additional education such as a masters or a Ph.D. improve your job opportunities and salary rates.
