How can I get appraisal jobs from mortgage companies?

I am currently a residental real estate appraiser assisant in New York. I've been working with a family appraisal company for the past 2 years and my boss is very lenient and will "sign-off" on any jobs that I bring in. Can anyone give me advice on how to get appraisal orders from mortgage companies in the area. We cover basically all of NY, and near Jersey.

I wouldn't bother talking to realtors. They are not the ones that would be ordering. You want to talk to mortgage brokers. If you let them know that you are good at what you do, you will at least get a few orders to start.
Reply:First off, are you a licensed Appraiser? If not, you cannot ask for business, no matter what your boss will "sign-off" on.

If you are licensed, you need to get your name out there to as many mortgage underwriters and Realtors as possible to get business. Start going to professional lunches, cocktail parties, etc. Make sure you give out as many business cards as possible to the right people.

Good luck!
Reply:Go knocking on doors, or invite the head honcho of the mortgage company to lunch. Give him a sample of your successful appraisals. Or, ask for time to give the Realtors in a large office a presentation of your abilities to make them money. Offer to bring lunch in to the whole office in exchange to meet them. If your Chamber has a Leads group, then join some groups to get to know the Realtors and mortgage company people. Always go to an office with arms full of gifts!! (coffee etc.) Warm fuzzy contact is key. Get to know the receptionist first. Be honest with the receptionist and friendly and ask for his/her help. If you are HONEST and have credibility, she/he will let you talk to the person with whom can help you the most.
Reply:if you are asking us, don't quit your day job
